I recognize the proto-type of the Wizard’s steam-powered lawn-mower in the steam-powered threshing-machines and tractors of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. At least one of them was still in use on a farm near my home when I was a child in the 1960’s. Others still come out for displays at county fairs and other venues. After studying the Wizard’s rig a second time, I think that its more immediate origin may have been a working, toy steam engine or tractor, because the steps that the Wizard took to get it going remind me of a toy that I saw long ago, probably also in my childhood.
Thanks for the stroll down Memory Lane!
