More than a few times have shared a meme starting with this poem, finishing with a sign that reads “REFUSE to be stored in black plastic sacks and placed in the containers provided.”
Only a few friends realize the meme could be read a couple different ways…
Yes, using “refuse” as a noun, it reads garbage in trash bags and trash cans.
But “refuse” can also be used as a verb. Really gives a different take once you do that… It is true that body bags are available in more than just black plastic these days.

I have subscribed to a paper newspaper ever since I moved out to go to college and then continued my life for the next decades. my parents always subscribe to the newspaper, and I grew up reading the comics page before I really had interest in any of the news.
The loss of the print media is, I think, a huge loss to knowledge and understanding of the world. I deflated when I encountered this in my paper–so much worthy of railing against these days it seems.
