Several years before I received your book, “I DID IT HIS WAY” I had recomposed Frank Sinatra’s National Anthem, “I did It My Way.” If I may, the lyrics follow…

Perhaps the end is near and if I face the final curtain
My friends I’ll say it clear and state my case,
    I trust is certain…
My life thus far was full. I’ve traveled each and
    every highway.
And tried, tried my best to do it Your Way.
Regrets I’ve had a few, but then again too few
    to mention.
I tried and tried to please Him, saw it through
    without exemption.
I planned each course, each step along the way
and tried, really tried to do it His Way…
There were times, I’m sure He knew
when I bit off more than I could chew
and when of sin I was guilty,
fell on my knees begging mercy.
    I’ve loved, laughed and cried,
had my thrills, my share of losing.
Now as tears subside, it wasn’t that amusing.
To think of all I did, not always in a shy way.
At least I really tried to do it His Way…
Yet what is a man, what has he got?
If not the Lord then he has naught.
He needs to kneel and pray
until at last he does it His way…

    Amen
